Georgia will be speaking at Blandford Town Museum between 2.15pm and 3.15pm on Saturday 14th November 2026. Her talk is entitled ‘Stuart Mysteries and Recipes – Talk with Q&A and Tasting Samples.’
Georgia, author of the historical mysteries The Alice Chronicles, will talking about her books and researching the food of rich and poor from 400 years ago. Georgia will bring samples to taste and recipe cards to try at home.
About the author
As a child I read any fiction I could get hold of, becoming so absorbed that my family talked to me and I had no idea. I began with Noel Streatfield, Andrew Lang, Enid Blyton, later moving on to my parents’ bookshelves to devour the Dornford Yates novels they had kept from their courting days. What a lovely thought that is – with no television and little money, their entertainment was to buy a book and read it to each other. Pure escapism, ‘high adventure’ my mother called it, full of motorcar chases around the continent with a hefty dose of romance thrown in.
I graduated through various authors – Alistair Maclean’s thrillers, Helen MacInnes’ spy fiction, Mary Stewart [especially The Ivy Tree, her novel of double deception], and so on. Nevil Shute’s ‘A Town like Alice’ remains an all-time favourite. Jane Austen I discovered later and became yet another fan, especially of ‘Persuasion’. Winston Graham’s ‘Marnie’ made the greatest impression on me, the first anti-heroine I’d met and couldn’t help rooting for. Did she inspire my ‘Alice’? Not directly, but the idea of a far-from-perfect protagonist stayed with me while I was learning to write, along with the suggestion of a layered resolution.
